John M. Rosentrater, Cemetery Director
Keeping communities informed and relationships strong, Cemetery Director Rosentrater and Sarasota National Cemetery Advisory Committee directors collaborate to achieve mutual strategic goals. The two organizations operate cooperatively under a Memorandum of Agreement.* As cemetery director, Rosentrater commits substantial time to outreach that helps veterans, their families, and other area residents remain informed about benefits available through the US Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), National Cemetery Administration.
John M. Rosentrater was named director of Sarasota National Cemetery, effective May 20, 2012. He is responsible for all burial, maintenance and administrative operations at the facility. Previously, Rosentrater was assistant director of Florida National Cemetery and served as assistant director of Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver, Colorado. He also served as the director of the Port Hudson and Baton Rouge National Cemeteries in Louisiana. While there, he also had the privilege of serving as the acting director of Natchez, Miss., and Alexandria, La., National Cemeteries for five months. Rosentrater joined the National Cemetery Administration (NCA) through an intensive intern training program at the Chattanooga National Cemetery in Tennessee. During his training, he also received valuable experience serving as acting director of Florence National Cemetery in South Carolina. Prior to joining NCA, he served veterans at the West Palm Beach VA Medical Center in Florida. |
Director Rosentrator and board members of Sarasota National Cemetery Ad-Com maintain networks of relationships to share information, especially within the Florida counties of Charlotte, Colier, DeSoto,Hardee, Hillsborough, Lee, Manatee, Pasco, Pinellas, and Sarasota. From June 1995 to May 2003, Rosentrater was the foreman of the medical center's grounds and transportation section, providing perpetual maintenance of the center’s 70-acre campus and managing door-to-door transportation. From 1992 to 1995, he helped activate a new medical center, working in Acquisition and Material Management. Rosentrater started his VA career in 1989 at Portland VA Medical Center. He attended Portland Community College in Oregon.
